Commitment.

I am starting this blog in the hope that I will stay committed and post photographs as well as other projects I get involved in. I am really working on becoming an all-around, multifacted artist, and this will hopefully become a record of another of the facets of my art.

Part of my recent dedication and interest in photography is the recent acquisition of a Sony SLR camera, a long desired christmas gift, as well as my experimentation with photoshop CS9. I am exploring all of the capabilities of my camera, and then trying to accomplish with photoshop what my camera cannot (as well as trying out some new editing techniques). Picture above was taken in Toronto.

As to the name I've chosen as an umbrella for my photography, Northern Dancer...it's actually the name of a hobby horse I had as a child. I grew up in Northern Ontario, in a little town called Sioux Lookout (about four hours northwest of Thunder Bay), hence the 'North', and as for the 'Dancer' part of the name, I am not really sure. However, I have now danced for almost sixteen years, so I figure the name is appropriate. Picture below taken in a local barn, near my hometown of Ridgetown.

Now, to the title of this blog, commitment. As one of my 2011 resolutions, I decided that I would take at least one picture every day, and now that I have photoshop, I have expanded this resolution to also edit at least one photo every day. I am going to add to this resolution by including this blog, to post new pictures, both original and edited and to talk about the places I've been to take said pictures. I am making a commitment to enjoy photography and take pride in the images that I capture, and to through my photographic explorations, expand myself as an artist. On the suggestion of my Dad, this coming summer, I will going to some of the flea markets in the area to sell some of my photographs, as well as getting my name out there in order to perhaps garner future business and contracts. If you live in the chatham-kent area, keep an eye out for me this summer!
